I grew up in a small town in rural Ohio, where I developed a fascination for costumes, make-up and creating strange, scary characters for halloween. My dream was to become a special effects make-up artist. During my studies at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, my practical side kicked in and I obtained a degree in commercial art. After nine years in commercial art, I felt I needed to get back to my creative roots. On a vacation to New Orleans, I was rejuvenated and artistically inspired by the eclectic mix of the macabre and festive spirit. When I saw the voodoo dolls in New Orleans, I thought they would be a great way to incorporate all of my interests into one art form.
